About the two translations on this site
Two full Bibles are loaded here — the World English Bible (WEB) and the King James Version (KJV). Both are in the public domain, which means you can read, copy, quote, and share any verse without permission or attribution fees.
The WEB (published 2000) is a modern English update of the 1901 American Standard Version, refreshed to match how Australians and other contemporary English speakers actually read. It keeps a faithful, accurate sense of the Hebrew and Greek without the archaic thee, thou, and verily of older translations.
The KJV (published 1611) is the most influential English translation in history. Its cadence shaped four centuries of literature, hymns, sermons, and memory verses — many of the lines you may already know by heart are KJV phrasing. Reading it slowly is its own discipline, and well worth the effort.
Use the Translation toggle at the top of every chapter to switch between WEB, KJV, or view both side-by-side. Your preference is remembered between visits. Featured verses with original commentary are highlighted in gold within the chapter view — click the Read commentary → link to study the passage in depth.
To start reading, pick any book below — they are grouped by Old Testament (39 books, Genesis → Malachi) and New Testament (27 books, Matthew → Revelation). You can also jump straight to today's verse, a random verse, or browse by topic.
